Reiki Therapy: Points To Consider

For the first timer Reiki client, the practitioner needs to discuss how Reiki actually works, what to expect during and after therapy, and an assessment of the number of sessions it may involve.

Taking a medical history is important, as it will facilitate recognition of problems prior to therapy. It is also vital that a rapport is established between the Reiki practitioner and his client at this stage.

Most treatments are administered while the client is lying on a massage couch, as it provides the needed comfort for him to relax and be receptive of the maximal benefits of Reiki.

Any form of jewellery particularly those which may cause problems in the access of the healing centers should be removed before therapy. Necklaces commonly generate such problems.

The room should be kept warm and a lightweight blanket should be handy as clients tend to get a little cold during a treatment. As the client, you have to inform your therapist should you feel any discomfort for any reason. Your therapist won't take offence.

Lighting should also be one that helps you to relax - not too dark or too bright.

During a Reiki therapy, you're not required to do anything but to relax and be comfortable. You may be completely relaxed that you tend to fall asleep. It is just alright though if you fall asleep during a therapy.

Prior to therapy, the practitioner naturally washes his/her hands.

You may find it uncomfortable to be so near with your therapist. You may need to adjust or the therapist may step back and start the treatment again at a farther distance. Your comfort is very important during a session. The practitioner moves his/her hands very slowly and gently so your discomfort may be lessened too.

Your Reiki practitioner will work over different areas of your body, resting for two to five minutes in each area. You may feel some coolness, warmth or a tingling sensation at this time; or probably nothing. On certain occasions, your emotions may need to respond probably urging you to cry. That is perfectly normal and you will be allowed to release what you feel until you are again ready to go on with the therapy.

After the treatment, your therapist will gradually figuratively bring you back to earth by gently stroking your back all the way down to your feet. Therapists may vary in terms of strokes used to rotate your feet as well as to massage your legs and arms.

You will then be offered a glass of water to help eliminate the toxins released into your circulation. You need to drink more water within the next 24 hours, as the Reiki energy goes on working for approximately that long after therapy.

If you are having a Reiki treatment to deal with a chronic illness or condition, then you'll need to have more treatments at the start until an improvement in your condition is evident.
