Facts About Reiki Attunement

Reiki attunement refers to a way of providing access to somebody so that the 'universal life force energy' can be tapped. With the use of special symbols and actions in a little rite or ritual, a Reiki practitioner performs an attunement. The participant's energy field is attuned or fine tuned during the performance of the ritual with the aid of the symbols that the founder of modern Reiki used while training his followers. Attunement remains permanent once it has transpired.

During an attunement ritual the following steps usually transpire:

* After first grounding and positioning himself at the center, the reiki master instructs the participant to do the same. At this time, the master says that this is the participant's rite, and that he has to be open to any experience that might occur during the attunement ritual. Then the master stands in front of the recipient who is usually seated leaving enough room for him to move around and work on. He would then raise his hands at shoulder level with palms facing forward.

* Then the master circles around the recipient and stands behind him. The ritual consists of two portions - one portion is performed behind the recipient and the other one is done in front of him.

* The master then holds his hand, palm up beside the recipient's head.

* With the use of his right hand, the master then draws the symbols above the crown of the recipient's head.

* Then the master moves back to the front of the recipient, and hold the recipient's hands between his own for about a moment or two.

* The master then draws the symbols over the recipient's hands; drawing each symbol only once.

* The recipient's forehead (relating to the third eye) is then touched lightly by the master. And the symbols are also drawn over the recipient's forehead.

* Then the master holds his right hand over the recipient's left hand; repeating this gesture with his left held over the recipient's right hand.

* The master then brings the palms of the recipient together.

* The master then touches the recipient's heart area. This aids in grounding him and returning him to his own pace.

* Finally the master steps back and bows before the recipient.

During or even after an attunement ritual, it would be perfectly normal for the recipient to feel peculiar sensations, overpowering feelings or probably just a sensation of lightness. This is because his body is adjusting to receive the energy flow transmitted. Therefore it may take several minutes, a few hours or even days, for the recipient to become used to the new reward he has received.
