Methods Of Making Leather Coats Weatherproof

If you own a leather coat, you would certainly want to weatherproof it. This is something that, unfortunately, creates a great deal of confusion to many people. Basically, weatherproofing your coat is concerned with taking care of it.

You will find a wide variety of weatherproofing products in the market. However, you need to take care before you buy any product since some of them are not really effective. Never the less, there are a few that are really good, one in particular is great at weatherproofing.

This is especially important if you are a motorcyclist. There are many things that negatively affect leather and you need to protect yours by weatherproofing it. Things like different types of liquids can easily stain a leather coat. It can also be attacked by mildew pretty easily. In addition, you should keep your leather coat from being too dry or it risks getting cracked.

There are two main groups in which leather coat conditioners are divided. There are waxy or greasy leather treatments and the other group involves the use of silicon or synthetic spray products.

Each group of leather coat conditioners has its own advantages and disadvantages. The main problem with wax based products is the fact that they tend to build up on your leather coat, hence transforming its feel. With silicon based products, the main problem is the distinct odor that they leave behind, and leather is quite good at absorbing odor. They are also prone to leave stains on your garment and at times may make it feel rather tacky. A number of the treatments are made of animal products, whose disadvantage is having distinct smells in addition to causing discoloration.

Before you completely use any product in weatherproofing your leather coat, you should apply a small amount on an invisible part in order to ascertain its effects. As the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry. Do not risk ruining your coat by using a conditioner that will just discolor it.

We had earlier said that there is one product that you may use in weatherproofing your leather coat more effectively. It is known as Leatherguard. This is a natural product that has no adverse effects even on the environment. Leatherguard will weatherproof your leather coat against such things as stains, mildew, cracking, as well as the effects of ultraviolet rays. Indeed, it is said that Leatherguard is capable of protecting your precious garment against every kind of non-corrosive spills by forming a protective layer. It also prevents fading that is likely to occur when you wear your leather coat under sunlight.

It is made of a colorless, water-based product that spreads evenly on your leather coat to give an all round protection.
