Bulk Food Storage

Bulk food storage can and is a wonderful way to save overall food costs. The problem most folks have is finding a way to store it. Many people have smaller living spaces today and would enjoy stocking up each and every time that a sale comes around, however, with limited space it can be rather difficult.

These bulk foods can be dried or freeze dried, as well as canned goods. Items like noodles, beans, flour based items, the list is virtually endless, can be stored for very long periods of time with no repercussions. That is to say that they will last and not go bad. With self lives that can last into many years, why does most people ignore this fact? It is because of space limitations.

Lets consider and assume that one does have the extra space and is able to take advantage of buying in bulk. With this specific situation, one can save hundreds or maybe even thousands of dollars each and every year. Lets take spaghetti noodles for instance. How many times does a basic family eat spaghetti a year? Probably, and this would be a low estimate for sake of argument, lets say once every three weeks. Therefore, they would eat this specific food approximately seventeen times a year. Now, lets say that the spaghetti noodles are twenty nine cents per pound in bulk and that each meal will consist of one pound of this bulk spaghetti. That would be seventeen times point twenty nine which equals four dollars and ninety three cents. Lets round this up to five dollars to make it easier. Now, lets consider the price and quantity of the prepackaged manufactured brand of spaghetti noodles per pound at say, sixty nine cents a pound. This would be point sixty nine times seventeen which equals eleven dollars and seventy three cents. Lets round this up also to twelve dollars. This is a difference of seven dollars. This seven dollars in savings could be applied to another household expense, not to mention that one would not have to worry about purchasing spaghetti noodles again for a year. This is the difference and benefits of buying in bulk. Although the numbers are realistic, the storage of seventeen pounds of spaghetti is not. But, buying these type of noodles in bulk and the cost savings is real and should be taken advantage of. But, most folks do not, nor do they even consider the savings potential for buying this way.

This is just one specific example of the possible and potential way of saving money in the bulk food arena. However, like mentioned earlier, many people would take advantage of this if they had a way and a place to keep these items. Nonetheless, the real problem when considering these factors is not the keeping or even the stocking up of the foodstuffs, it is the bulk food storage aspect that turns most folks away.

Edible nanostructures: Compounds made from renewable materials could be used for gas storage, food technologies

Sugar, salt, alcohol and a little serendipity led researchers to discover a new class of nanostructures that could be used for gas storage and food and medical technologies. And the compounds are edible. The porous crystals are the first known all-natural metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that are simple to make. Most other MOFs are made from petroleum-based ingredients, but the new MOFs you can ...
